So my last post back in April 2011 was focused on my decision to re-take the MCAT, while the results of that exam weren't the best ever, it did open up a door that I never would have thought possible and I'm falling more in love with each day. Even though it was heartbreaking to have been rejected from every school that I had applied to, I was fortunate enough to have the support from my boyfriend, family, and friends to keep me motivated and moving forward. This is the career that I'm striving to attain and I've been blessed with an amazing opportunity that I plan on taking full advantage of.
I re-posted the PostSecret card that inspired me so long ago, a secret that I shared with another anonymous poster somewhere in this vast world we live in. Well, what has changed in my life since then? For the last 3 weeks, I've been taking classes at the University of South Florida's Morsani College of Medicine through the Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences track...it's been incredible. We've been presented with hypothetical cases, given some basic symptoms, and come up with our own diagnosis and method of treatment along the way. My confidence has grown so much within this short time it's almost breathtaking. It's like I actually know some of the things I spit out. My nonsensical ramblings and guesses about symptoms actually make sense to my colleagues, while my presentations on our objectives leave no real room for further questioning. Then there's these crazy classmates of mine...people I have finally formed an instant connection with and understand the same struggles and anxieties I have about medical school and the god-forsaken MCAT. Never in my life have I been able to make friends this quickly, I'm blessed to have met them. They've turned into a support system that I will be so fortunate to have when I'm about to bash my head through the tables in the late night study sessions.
What about my biggest support system?
Albeit, the long-distance sucks again...I know and keep telling myself that
there's a bigger purpose behind us being separated and that everything will
come in it's due time. I'll just keep crossing dates of my calendar till we
are reunited again & settle for my late night talks and millions
of text messages in a day. Fortunately, we've been able to see each other
rather frequently this summer till M1 start, and even then..all that will surely
change again. After 4 years though, I think we'll be alright...<3
Ahhh M1, I'm looking forward to you...you cruel mistress. Bring it
on.
